Calling All Performance Poets Out There…

November 23, 2009

The poetry corps of Cumbernauld Frontier Writers, headed by the indefatigable Danny O’Connor, are hosting a Slam heat in January. AKA the diet month.

WE WANT YOU!

On January 15th at the Muirfield Centre, the first ever Cumbernaud Slam heat will take place. As with all heats in the Scottish circuit, this is open to all poets resident in the UK.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

The winner of our Slam will secure a competition place in the National Poetry Slam. And lot’s of knowing nods, glances and pats of the back from fellow poets. As well as the opportunity to network with some of the country’s best poets. And you don’t need to win to get the last two on the list.

And, don’t forgot, there will be a prize of £100 in used banknotes to the winner as well. (Yes, that is a Price is Right style ‘ooooohhhh’ in your head right night)

SO WHAT’S THE FORMAT, THEN?

Twenty-five of the best performance poets in competition and an audience of over a hundred spectators. A judging panel and a hyperactive MC. And, hopefully, you!

Poets will perform two slots each of two mins. They will be rated by the judging panel and then the top three go head to head to decide the overall winner.

CAN I TAKE PART, PLEASE?

Yes, you are welcome. Simply contact us, either by registering your interest in the comments box of this post or by following the details in the contact us page. But you better register early.

DO I NEED TO WEAR A SCARF AND A HAT AND GROW A SALT & PEPPER GOATEE?

No, but points for artistic intent are on offer.

WILL THERE BE A BAR?

Actually. no. This is unique in the circuit as it will allow us to free ourselves from the constraints that the licensing laws impinge upon us at the traditional slam venues. Soft drinks and fag breaks will be allowed, though.

RIGHT: THAT’S IT, I’M IN. HOW DO I GET THERE?
